‘What is ILLiS Certification?

A need has existed worldwide for some standardized internationally-recognized certification for all qualified medical and paramedical personnel working in the medical and surgical laser field. and a new and exciting initiative jointly developed by the ISLSM and WFSLMS has been proposed, the International Laser License System (ILLiS) qualification, under the umbrella of the International Academy Laser Medicine and Surgery (IALMS) based in Florence, Italy. This has been fine-tuned with the cooperation of leading laser specialists world-wide, and a consensus has been reached on what the format should be. The important news is that the ILLiS initiative was officially launched during Laser Tokyo 2009, with the award of IMeLaS (International Medical Laser Specialist) certificates to the successful candidates. This adds even more to the importance of the APALMS meeting as the next site for the ILLiS initiative, and is another compelling reason why you need to be with us in Suwa in October to sit for your appropriate ILLiS qualification.
The ILLiS qualification is awarded under six categories as follows:

E International Medical Laser Specialist (IMeLaS) for qualified medical doctors (MD, MB ChB, or equivalent)
E International Dental Laser Specialist (IDeLaS) for dental surgeons (DDS, or equivalent)
E International Veterinary Laser Specialist (IVeLaS) for veterinarians (DVM, or equivalent)
E International Laser Nursing Specialist (ILNuS) for qualified laser nurses (RN, SEN, SRN, or equivalent)
E International Laser Engineering Specialist (ILES) for qualified laser engineers (MSc, PhD, or equivalent)
E Physicist International Laser Specialist (P-ILaS), for qualified scientists (PhD, or equivalent)

Each of the above categories is offered at 4 grades. The entry level is grade 4, represented by the prefix C- (e.g., C-IMeLaS, C-IDeLaS, et cetera); Grade 3 is represented by the suffix B-; Grade 2 by the suffix A-; and grade 1 by the suffix I-, where eIf stands for Instructor)
